Alex James' Ultimate Burger

With this recipe Alex uses a BBQ with a griddle which works especially well when frying.

But don’t worry if you don’t have a griddle BBQ, you can achieve the same with a pan on your normal grill!

Just remember thin pans can be quite difficult to use as hot spots can cause scorching!

We would suggest investing in a cast iron skillet or dutch oven, to get the best use out of your BBQ.

  • 450g Lean Beef Mince
  • Fried onions
  • Crispy fried thick bacon rashers
  • Thick slices blue cheese
  • Iceberg lettuce leaves
  • Fried egg
  • Toasted brioche buns
  • Lashings of sauce & ketchup!!


Preheat your BBQ to a medium to high heat. 

Start with your bacon and onions - it helps to get these out of the way first so you can concentrate on not burning your burger buns later!

Cook them both in frying pans or directly on the griddle, and once the bacon is crispy and the onions are soft and golden, put them to one side.

Now grab the mince (Alex uses 5% fat aberdeen angus mince), and either using your hands or a burger press, shape the mince into skinny burgers.

Tip: You may choose to prepare these before hand to save some time.

Pop the burgers on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side.

Whilst they are sizzling away nicely, place the brioche buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes, until slightly toasted.

Then layer up the ingredients and enjoy - its as simple as that!
